The living arrangement represents the type of domestic or family cohabitation of the resident population. The persons living in private households are represented according to their family status (partner, child, mother or father in single-parent families) or as living alone or as another household member. The living arrangement of a person can, for example, be evaluated according to demographic or geographical characteristics.

The Microcensus Labour Force Survey (sample survey) provides information on the living arrangements of the population in private households. The Register-based Census / Register-based Labour Market Statistics (administrative data) also provide data on persons living in institutional households and homeless persons (i.e. those who have a so-called residence confirmation in the Central Population Register). The publication of the Microcensus Labour Force Survey refers to the previous year, that of the Register-based Labour Market Statistics to the year before that.

S: STATISTICS AUSTRIA, Labour Force Survey (micro census), average of all weeks of a year. Compiled on 18 March 2022. – Data derived from fewer than 6 000 projected persons are random data. Data from fewer than 3 000 projected persons cannot be interpreted statistically. - The definition of 'family' used here corresponds to the concept of a nuclear family (partner, child, mother or father in single-parent families). This family concept only includes persons living in the same household.

S: STATISTICS AUSTRIA, Population Censuses 1971 to 2001, Register-based Census 2011, Register-based Labour Market Statistics 2019. Compiled on 28 June 2021. – From 2001 onwards: household-dwelling-concept, up to 1991: housekeeping-unit-concept. For data privacy protection reasons, the statistical disclosure control method of "Record Swapping" has been used on a part of the data from 2011 onwards. For analyses based on very small cell values, no reliable assertions can be made. Persons in institutional households (just 2011): without 2.907 persons not living in a private household, no category stated. Primary homeless (from 2011 onwards): persons with residence confirmation.
