Description

The term air emissions refers to all flows of gaseous and particulate substances from the economic system into the atmosphere as part of the environment. This implies that only man-made (anthropogenic) and not natural emissions are considered.

In the air emissions accounts, emissions are allocated to economic activities and household consumption. Only those emissions are taken into account that are caused by people living in Austria and by companies and institutions registered in Austria, regardless of where in the world they are emitted. In contrast, the Environment Agency Austria annually compiles the Austrian Air Pollutant and Greenhouse Gas Inventory, which reflects the emissions of air pollutants and greenhouse gases for the Austrian national territory.

The air emissions accounts use data from the Austrian Air Pollutant and Greenhouse Gas Inventory and from energy statistics and are published annually for Austria.
