Description

Every male Austrian citizen is liable for military conscription with his 17th birthday. The enlistment takes place in the calendar year in which the 18th birthday is reached (main enlistment year). However, it is also possible to take a military examination in the year before or after. Since the military examinations mainly aim at defining the suitability for military service, they allow for a comprehensive picture of the health situation of 18-year-old male Austrian citizens. The placement procedure ends with a decision on fitness or unfitness for compulsory military service.

The data source for these statistics are the results of the medical examinations of the Federal Ministry of Defense.
