Description

Income tax statistics, which are published annually in March of the third year following the year of assessment, provide information about the income and taxation, respectively, of natural persons subject to income tax. Income tax statistics present the number of persons assessed, their earnings, taxable income and losses, income tax, wage tax deducted, tax liability or credit, tax credits and other characteristics. The predominant income type and the type of tax assessment are documented. Most of the tables are split by gender. Regional results are analysed by Bundesländer (the federal provinces), NUTS units and political districts. Furthermore, the results of income tax statistics provide basic data for tax-policy decisions and the resulting legal measures. Income tax statistics are secondary statistics and are based on data that are stored by the financial administration in the course of income tax assessment.
