Description

The non-financial accounts of general government constitute an integral part of national accounts. Compilation follows the concepts of the “European System of Accounts” (ESA 2010) and an additional ESA based handbook, the Manual on Government Deficit and Debt (MGDD).

The presentation is consolidated, i.e. on subsector level flows within the subsector, on general government level also flows between subsectors are balanced. Quarterly accounts are compiled within three months after the end of the reported quarter, annual data is revised (usually for the last three years) at the end of March and end of September. Time series on an annual basis for general government data are available from 1995 onwards. All units classified in general government are required by law to provide data (e.g. financial statements) based on the respective accounting framework defined by national legislation.
