Austria’s foreign trade statistics (international trade in goods statistics, ITGS) record imports and exports of movable goods, including electricity, and are published monthly. They are based on data from the Intrastat data collection system, which records cross-border goods transactions within the EU, and Extrastat, which focuses on cross-border goods transactions with non-EU countries. The ITGS are legally regulated at EU level and at national level. The national rules essentially relate to the EU regulations and at the same time make reference to the specific national situation.
The ITGS therefore provide essential basic economic information on Austria’s cross-border trade in goods with EU Member States and non-EU countries and are a key indicator for evaluating economic development. From the Austrian perspective, the results are published according to the national concept.
